TRAVEL THE WORLD - DOUARNENEZ, BRITTANY, FRANCE

Douarnenez was one of our favourite places in Brittany when we visited France in 2008. The town is located on the estuary of the Pouldavid River. When the photo was taken, we had been walking for several kilometres along the estuary until we could see the open sea. Douarnenez originally became established as a centre of sardine fishing and canning. These industries have declined, causing a major loss of population. Fortunately, the attractive location has brought many visitors which form the basis for a thriving tourist industry.
