I'm not sure what these folks at Concarneau in 2008 were collecting, but we assumed it must have been some sort of shellfish, perhaps clams. It seems a popular pastime in Brittany, as we frequently saw people busy collecting at low tide. We liked Concarneau and walked there for a long time along the sea front.
